If your Gmail inbox is constantly flooded with junk mail, there’s a smarter way to take control—and most people don’t realize it.
When I work with clients, I always recommend having two separate email accounts. Think of it as organizing your digital life. The first email is your “online” or “public” email—this is the one you use for signing up for websites, shopping, apps, newsletters, and anything that might lead to spam. You don’t need to check it constantly—just review it occasionally and forward anything important to your main account.
The second email is your “personal” email, and this one is for what actually matters—friends, family, and important services like medical providers. Keeping this inbox clean makes it much easier to stay on top of important messages. Many healthcare providers follow HIPAA guidelines, so this email can also be appropriate for medical communication (as long as your account stays secure).
The good news is you don’t have to juggle multiple apps to manage both accounts. Tools like Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook, or other email apps let you view multiple inboxes in one place. You can also set up automatic forwarding so that important emails from your “online” account get sent directly to your personal inbox.
Here’s the part most people don’t know: if you’ve had a Gmail account for years and it’s become cluttered, you can now transition to a new Gmail address more easily. This lets you turn your old account into your “online” email, while your new address becomes your clean, personal inbox going forward.
It’s a simple setup, but it makes a huge difference—less spam, better organization, and way less stress managing your email.
I also have a YouTube video on my channel that walks you through exactly how to set this up, along with more practical email tips and tricks.
