It's 9:26 p.m.
Laptop still open.
Newsletter still unfinished.
I sat down this morning thinking creating today's newsletter would be a straight-line task.
Write the intro. Polish a few things. Hit send. Be done. I planned on being done by 11am
Instead, I’ve been “working” on this newsletter for nearly twelve hours.
Not working-working.
That other kind.
The kind where time doesn’t move forward so much as… wander off.
Here’s how the day actually went:
Optical illusions somehow felt urgent.
Bills demanded attention.
Image generators pulled me into a rabbit hole I did not need.
A couple coworkers needed help untangling software.
A dear friend called, drunk enough to slur, sober enough to mean it. He always does. I love him for that.
There was too much coffee.
A nap that turned into a commitment.
Emails that kept showing up like uninvited guests.
A mysterious basement smell that required investigation and solved nothing.
YouTube fought me for control of the room.
I asked for a fireplace.
It insisted on Bossa Nova.
We did not agree.
Somewhere in there, I discovered a couple new porn sites.
And yes, I spent more time playing with my nipples than was strictly necessary for productivity.
All of this to say:
Time got away from me.
What should have been clean and linear turned messy and human.
Distracting. Comforting. Irritating. Amusing. Familiar.
And I have a feeling that doesn’t just belong to me.
Most of us start with intention.
A plan.
A clear idea of how the day is supposed to go.
Then life wanders in, pulls up a chair, and says, “Cool. Let’s do something else.”
So if your week didn’t go in a straight line either, welcome.
If things took longer than planned, welcome.
If you showed up sideways, distracted, imperfect, and still here, welcome.
This newsletter still made it out.
You’re still reading it.
Some days, that’s more than enough.
